This standard covers the competences you need to conduct safety checks on explosives facilities in accordance with approved procedures and practices.
You will be required to demonstrate that you can recommend or take appropriate remedial action in the event of failures within the limits of your authority, ensuring that all recommended actions have been carried out in accordance with approved procedures.
This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as maintenance and disposal managers and maintenance, storage and disposal supervisors.
P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations and guidelines
P2 ensure that you are working to the correct explosives facilities maintenance and inspection plans
P3 communicate the requirements of the plan and tasks to those concerned
P4 confirm that the appropriate tools and equipment needed to carry out the checks are available and use them correctly
P5 implement the requirements of the explosives facilities maintenance and inspection plan correctly
P6 recommend or take appropriate remedial action in the event of failures within the limits of your authority
P7 ensure that all recommended actions have been carried out
P8 draft clear, concise inspection reports in the appropriate format
K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations, safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
