Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to ensure explosives facilities are fit for purpose in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can ensure that your explosives facilities maintenance and inspection plans confirm the performance of the safety features specified in the design and address any shortcomings and/or non- conformities in accordance with approved procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as manufacturing, maintenance, storage and disposal managers and manufacturing and maintenance supervisors.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations and guidelines
P2 ensure that your explosives facilities maintenance and inspection plans are complete, up to date and practicable
P3 ensure that your explosives facilities maintenance and inspection plans confirm the performance of the safety features specified in the design and address any shortcomings and/or non- conformities
P4 communicate the requirements of your plans to those concerned
P5 confirm that the appropriate tools and equipment needed to carry out the checks are available
P6 ensure that competent people are carrying out the checks
P7 ensure that the explosives facilities maintenance and inspection plans are implemented correctly
P8 recommend or take appropriate remedial action in the event of failures within the limits of your authority
P9 ensure that all recommended actions have been carried out
P10 draft clear, concise inspection reports, in the appropriate format
P11 ensure that the current activities are covered by the licence
P12 take prompt corrective action in the case of encroachments
