Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to operate specialized plant and machinery to performance requirements for explosive substances and/or articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can confirm that the appropriate equipment you require to carry out your work is available for use, monitoring the equipment to maintain safety of operation throughout the work activity in accordance with approved procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes those working as storage operators

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 confirm the work requirements with the appropriate person(s)
P3 confirm that the appropriate equipment you require to carry out your work is available for use
P4 prepare, set up and adjust the equipment for the work activity, in accordance with instructions, safety and work requirements
P5 record any defects and damage to the equipment, and take appropriate action to correct them
P5.1 monitor the equipment to maintain safety of operation throughout the work activity
P5.2 report any problems and conditions that are beyond your level of authority to the appropriate person
P5.3 conclude the work activity, shutting equipment down and leaving it secure in accordance with approved procedures and practices
P5.4 ensure that you follow the post-stop maintenance requirements and confirm that the equipment is left in a suitable condition

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event

K7 the routine checks to be carried out at start up
