Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to plan the maintenance programme for explosive substances and/or articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can assess the amount and type of resources needed, assessing the technical and business risks involved in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as maintenance managers

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 assess the amount and type of resources needed
P3 assess the technical and business risks involved
P4 agree the deliverables with the customer
P5 produce a clear and accurate maintenance programme and contingency plan in accordance with your organization’s explosives maintenance policy
P6 take into account in your programme any maintenance, configuration or repair recommendations
P7 build in an appropriate review process
P8 communicate your maintenance programme clearly in the approved manner
P9 maintain the requirements of confidentiality at all times
P10 comply with the appropriate quality standards

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substance and/or article
