Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to review the factors affecting the safety of specific explosive substances and/or articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can establish the requirements specific to the explosive substance and/or article. Establishing the design, intended use and operation/functioning of the explosive substance and/or article in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes individuals working as explosives safety managers, advisers, regulators and procurement managers.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmentaland other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 identify and gather all available information relevant to the safety of theexplosive substance and/or article
P3 evaluate the accuracy, currency, completeness and validity of the information, obtaining further information to fill any gaps
P4 establish the design, intended use and operation/functioning of the explosive substance and/or article
P5 establish the intended environments of the explosive substance and/orarticle throughout its life
P6 establish the requirements specific to the explosive substance and/orarticle
P7 identify hazards and assess risks associated with the environments and/oruse of the explosive substance and/or articles
P8 give your customer timely advice or feedback on developments, during thecourse of your review
P9 inform your customer promptly of the findings of your review

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives, and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substances and/or articles
