Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to manage explosives safety in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can ensure that a risk assessment that addresses the explosives risks identified relevant to the activities conducted, is available in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as managers who are responsible for any area where there are explosive substances or articles.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 develop an explosives safety plan for your area of responsibility that is fit for purpose
P3 ensure that a risk assessment that addresses the explosives risks identified relevant to the activities conducted, is available
P4 ensure that organisational emergency procedures are tested and evaluated
P5 communicate the explosives safety plan to those involved or who may be affected
P6 provide opportunities for staff to make constructive suggestions on explosives safe systems of work
P7 implement the explosives safety plan within the agreed timescale and resources
P8 ensure that safe systems of work are in place
P9 respond to developing events and priorities in accordance with procedures
P10 ensure that a review of the explosives safety plan is carried out at the required intervals by suitably experienced and/or qualified personnel
P11 ensure that identified mitigations and controls are in place and are understood
P12 amend the explosives safety plan in the light of changing circumstances and/or information
P13 adhere to the appropriate quality standards
