Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to evacuate casualties in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can analyse the available information of injury type and cause, and draw reasoned conclusions as to the nature of the problem in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working in any role in munitions clearance or search.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with relevant health and safety, environmental and other regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 identify and address the risks of hazards surrounding the casualty
P3 analyse the available information of injury type and cause, and draw reasoned conclusions as to the nature of the problem
P4 identify and address the risks associated with evacuating the casualty
P5 co-ordinate the appropriate medical support services and the likely action needed
P6 develop and implement an effective and prioritized evacuation process
P7 implement the correct first aid procedure

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K4 how the evidence may indicate the nature of the problem
K5 what kind of first aid may be needed
K6 which medical support services should be contacted, and the nature of their help
K7 the resources at your disposal for dealing with the casualty
K8 the factors to be taken into account to evacuate the casualty and possible consequences of the evacuation
K9 the order of your priorities in dealing with the casualty/ies
K10 the requirements of the appropriate first aid procedure
K11 the importance of effective communication
