Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to plan the disposal of explosive substances and/or articles (non-complex) in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can confirm that you have the appropriate procedure for the explosive substances and/or articles to be disposed of identifying resource requirements that are appropriate to the disposal in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as disposal supervisors.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 confirm the identity of the explosive substances and/or articles for disposal, and their condition
P3 confirm that you have the appropriate procedure for the explosive substances and/or articles to be disposed of
P4 identify resource requirements that are appropriate to the disposal
P5 ensure that the facilities are fit for purpose for the disposal task to be carried out
P6 produce a clear and accurate plan in the appropriate format
P7 obtain agreement to your plan

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations, safe working practices and procedures governing explosives andtheir implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substances and/or articles
K4 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K5 the quantity and condition of the explosive substances and/or articles(s) for disposal
K6 the disposal procedure to be used
K7 the factors vital to the disposal
K8 the disposal objectives
K9 the resources needed to carry out the disposal and any constraints attached to them
K10 what might constitute value to your customer and/or your organization
K11 safe systems of work and supporting risk assessments
