Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (Diploma) - IEDD (Dip)

The Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (Diploma) course provides training in the skills required to perform the role of an IEDD Operator in a non-permissive environment.

The course starts with an assessment of the operator’s skills and knowledge of C-IED operations (a reading pack is provided before the course commences). There is then a brief re-cap of IED switching methods and the rationale and philosophy behind the render safe of IEDs.

The emphasis is on the practical aspects of the render safe of IEDs and includes the use of IEDD Weapons, Remotely Operated Vehicles and Digital Radiography.

In the final part of the course, candidates take on the role of an IEDD Operator in realistic simulations of operational scenarios where all aspects of the event are practised including input from other emergency services. This will be in a simulated non-permissive environment where the terrorist has control of the ground and the IEDD Operator and team may be the intended target. The course is therefore particularly suited to experienced IEDD personnel.
