Explosives Training

ISSEE offers students from military, police and civil agencies the opportunity to study for qualifications in Explosive Ordnance Disposal. Until the formation of ISSEE, this subject matter was only available through military training schools and even then, without academic qualification.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and fulfil many different roles including Humanitarian Demining through to Counter-Terrorist Bomb Disposal Officers and from Environmental Services teams through to Explosives Magazine Personnel and government scientists.

Explosives Foundation

2008 dates: 14 - 18 January, 11 - 15 February, 10 - 14 March, 7 - 11 April, 23 - 27 June, 15 - 19 September, 17 - 21 November

To provide the student with the basic knowledge required to handle explosives safely.

Duration:

5 days

Qualifications Achieved:

On successful completion of the course, the individual will receive ISSEE and City & Guilds certification.

Student Group:

This course is designed for individuals who have little or no experience in dealing with explosives

Pre Attendance Requirements:

English Language Proficiency.

Aim:

To provide the student with the basic knowledge required to handle explosives safely

Content:

To educate students in the differences and applications of high and low explosives.

To educate students on the principles and objectives of explosive trains.

To educate students on the principles of explosive power and effects, reducing explosives effects, and using explosives effects.

To educate students in the standard operating procedures when carrying out an explosive demolition operation.

To educate students in the responsibilities of supervisors of personnel carrying out explosive demolition operations.

To educate students in Explosives Health & Safety and First Aid in respect of blast injuries.

To enable students to handle and use explosives confidently and competently, including the making up of ring mains and line detonation systems.

Explosives Storage Foundation

To provide the student with the basic knowledge required to store explosives in accordance with statutory legislation.

Duration:

2 days

Qualifications Achieved:

On successful completion of the course, the individual will receive an ISSEE certificate.

Student Group:

This course is designed for individuals who would like employment in the pyrotechnic or explosives industry

Pre Attendance Requirements:

English Language Proficiency.

Aim:

To provide the student with the basic knowledge required to store explosives in accordance with statutory legislation

Content:

To introduce the student to UN and NATO ammunition and storage regulations

To introduce the student to the UN and NATO ammunition and explosives transportation regulations.

To introduce the student to ammunition and explosives security

To introduce the student to Radiation Hazards in respect of ammunition and explosives storage areas.

Explosives Storage Management

2008 dates: 11 - 15 February, 31 March - 4 April, 30 June - 4 July, 13 - 17 October

To provide the student with the knowledge required to correctly manage the storage of pyrotechnics and explosives in accordance with statutory legislation.

Duration:

5 days

Qualifications Achieved:

On successful completion of the course, the student will receive ISSEE and City and Guilds certification

Student Group:

The course is designed for individuals who are responsible for the management of pyrotechnic and explosives storage areas

Pre Attendance Requirements:

Students will have either completed an ISSEE Explosives Storage Foundation Course or will have demonstrated prior learning in explosives storage. English Language Proficiency

Aim:

To provide the student with the knowledge required to correctly manage the storage of pyrotechnics, ordnance, munitions and explosives in accordance with statutory legislation

Content:

At the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of:

UK Health and Safety and the Explosives Act 1875

UN and NATO standards for ordnance, munitions and explosives storage, handling and transportation.

Explosives Safety

Explosives Transportation and Explosives Security

Quantity Distances in respect of Explosive Storage Areas

The responsibilities of managers and employees within an Explosive Storage Area
