Overview

Couple and uncouple the vehicle in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This standards comprises the following elements:

2 Uncouple the vehicle

You will be required to demonstrate that you can couple and uncouple the vehicle in accordance with the relevant workplace procedures.
This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as transport operators.

Performance Criteria

1 Couple the vehicle
P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 manoeuvre the unit in relation to the trailer ready for coupling
P3 prepare the unit and trailer for coupling
P4 ensure that the trailer’s brakes are applied during coupling
P5 test the coupling to ensure that it has been established correctly
P6 make all the connections that need to be established
P7 ensure that unit and trailer systems are functioning
P8 ensure that the coupled vehicle is safe for driving

Knowledge and Understanding

1 Couple the vehicle
K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives, and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K4 how different types of coupling work
K5 when and how different connections have to be made
