Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to lift, transfer and position explosive substances and/or articles loads articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can confirm that the area of work is safe and is secure for the movement and transfer of loads. Identifying potential difficulties in carrying out the operation, and resolve them with the appropriate person(s in accordance with approved procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes those working as storage and general explosives operators.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 identify the load to be moved from the work instructions
P3 confirm that the area of work is safe and is secure for the movement and transfer of loads
P4 identify potential difficulties in carrying out the operation, and resolve them with the appropriate person(s)
P5 confirm that equipment to be used is operational
P6 select the load and confirm that it is suitable for lifting
P7 lift and transfer the load to its designated location securely and without damage
P8 report any damage to the load to the appropriate person(s)
P9 complete all documentation in accordance with organizational procedures

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the characteristics of different types of explosive substances and/or article loads to be moved, and how they need to be moved
K4 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K5 the type of equipment used in moving and transferring these loads within context of operations and the work activity
K6 the action to take in the event of problems arising
K7 reporting lines and procedures
