Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to manage configuration activities for explosive substances and/or articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can manage the resources to optimum effect to complete the configuration activities. Reporting any problems and/or non-conformities promptly, to the appropriate person in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as maintenance supervisors and for manufacturing managers and supervisors.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 manage the resources to optimum effect to complete the configuration activities
P3 take prompt and effective action to deal with actual and predicted changes to the planned use of resources
P4 make sure that those using resources are aware of their responsibilities for the care and use of resources
P5 verify that the current and previous configuration of the explosive substance and/or article is established accurately, and is available
P6 manage the implementation of the configuration plan, according to its requirements
P7 report any problems and/or non-conformities promptly, to the appropriate person
P8 record configuration actions taken in accordance with organizational procedures
P9 maintain the requirements of confidentiality at all times
P10 comply with the appropriate quality standards

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substance and/or article
K4 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event

K6 the functional requirements of the configured components
K7 the specification and standards of the explosive article and/or substance, and acceptable tolerances
K8 the interchangeability of the explosive article and/or substance
K9 the available resources, and the timescale for the configuration task

K11 how to verify the accuracy of configuration
K12 the reporting lines and procedures for reporting problems and nonconformities
