Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to determine and implement aggregated risk control measures for explosives in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can draw up a clear implementation plan which specifies objectives, method, allocated resources, budget and timescales, obtaining approval and commitment to your proposed or amended implementation plans in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes individuals working as explosives safety managers, advisers and regulators.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 select the risk control measure(s) that best meet your organization’s priorities and objectives
P3 draw up a clear implementation plan which specifies objectives, method, allocated resources, budget and timescale
P4 obtain approval and commitment to your proposed or amended implementation plans
P5 implement the plan, within the agreed timescale and resources
P6 amend the plan, in the light of changing circumstances or information
P7 provide advice that addresses the customer’s requirements and the degree of risk
P8 confirm that your advice and its implications have been understood
P9 evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation, making practical recommendations for future use
P10 obtain authorization as a result of your implementation measures when appropriate
P11 maintain the appropriate documentation correctly
