Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to analyse and identify aggregated hazards and risks for explosives in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can determine whether there are interactions between the individual risks evaluate the potential safety consequences of identified interactions ensuring that all hazards have been identified in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes individuals working as explosives safety advisers, regulators and procurement managers and supervisors.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 ensure that all the information is current, complete and accurate
P3 validate the separate risk assessments
P4 determine whether there are interactions between the individual risks
P5 evaluate the potential safety consequences of identified interactions
P6 ensure that all hazards have been identified
P7 obtain any necessary approval to your analysis
P8 report your findings in the appropriate format in accordance with organizational procedures
P9 maintain the documentation requirements

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives, and their implications for your area of operation

K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substances and/or articles
