Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to formulate national policy for explosive substances and articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can establish the extent to which a relevant national policy currently exists, identifying areas for improvement in the existing national policy in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes individuals working as explosives safety managers, advisers and regulators.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 establish the extent to which a relevant national policy currently exists
P3 identify areas for improvement in the existing national policy
P4 identify the need for new policy where none currently exists
P5 recommend changes that address the areas for improvement
P6 establish the constraints that may influence the policy
P7 evaluate the potential impact of the proposed policy
P8 secure commitment from appropriate stakeholders to the proposed policy
P9 review periodically the extent to which the policy delivers requirements
P10 confirm that your recommendations, and their implications, are clearly understood
P11 publish the policy in the appropriate format
