Overview

Design and arrange for the authorization of the blast specification in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This standard comprises the following:

1 Collate information for the blast design
2 Produce a detailed blast specification
3 Arrange for the authorization of the blast specifications

You will be required to demonstrate that you can determine design and arrange for the authorization of the blast specification in accordance with the relevant workplace procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes blasting personnel.

Performance Criteria

1 Collate information for the blast design

P1 information from records of previous blasts are examined and evaluated in determining the blast design
P2 information determined through assessment of the blast requirements is evaluated for the blast design
P3 constraints and capabilities of plant and equipment used for moving and processing mineral materials are identified and taken into account in the blast design
P4 all information is collectively evaluated to determine the blast design
P5 approved procedures and practices are incorporated to minimize danger to persons, damage to plant and equipment and the environment
P6 proactive audits of written procedures and rules concerning minimizing danger to persons, and damage to plant, equipment and the environment have been carried out
P7 problems are identified and communicated to the appropriate person(s)
P8 work is carried out to approved procedures and practices and in compliance with statutory requirements

2 Produce a detailed blast specification

P9 design of the blast specification is developed for the pattern and size of charge required
P10 types of explosive materials, method of initiation and shotfiring system are clearly stipulated in accordance with operational and organization rules and procedures and comply with legislative requirements
P11 the blast specifications are designed in accordance with approved procedures and practices and conforms with the requirements of legislation
P12 information and details of the blast specifications are recorded in accordance with operational and organizational rules and procedures
P13 work is carried out to approved procedures and practices and in compliance with statutory requirements
