Overview

Determine the blast requirements in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This standard comprises the following:

1 Identify the area for blasting
2 Determine the objectives of the blast

You will be required to demonstrate that you can determine the quality and extent of mineral materials for removal and you have assessed and confirmed with the relevant persons in accordance with the relevant workplace procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes blasting personnel.

Performance Criteria

1 Identify the area for blasting

P1 the location and area for blasting is identified and confirmed to conform with the overall development plans of the site
P2 the quality and extent of mineral materials for removal are assessed and confirmed with the relevant persons and the operational requirements
P3 any geological anomalies of the blast site are identified visually and recorded to be taken into account in the blast design
P4 dimensional information is collected and recorded in accordance with the blast specification requirements
P5 the effects of the blast are considered on quarry plant, buildings, external features and the surrounding environment
P6 potential hazards and danger sources are accurately identified and recorded in the blast specification
P7 work is carried out to approved procedures and practices and in compliance with statutory requirements
