Facilities
ISSEE has some of the best facilities for delivering Security and Exploisves courses. Most security and Counter Terrorist scenarios can be simulated and managed in the 55 acres which includes hardstanding, grass and woodlands, search houses, railway carriage, buses and cars.
The Search Centre contains simulated rooms such as office, kitchen, bathroom, living areas and attic for IEDD and Search training. Please see "Specialist" button above for further information.
The facilities are used to enhance the practical training phases of ISSEE courses which includes the live explosives practical training and explosives demonstrations. All of our facilities are available for hire by external agencies for them to conduct their training. Enquiries can be made to the Office Manager on Tel. 0044 (0) 1722 717979.
Specialist Training Areas
Search Centre
The Search Centre makes flexible use of the bays which replicate rooms such as office, kitchen, living areas, bathroom and attic. These are used for Search and IEDD training. The sand pit is used for EOD Clearance practical exercises and Humanitarian Demining training.
Derelict buildings
Making a superb backdrop for any search operation, ISSEE can provide a number of small and medium-sized buildings, most of which have been dormant for the past 10 years and each of which has suitably wild surroundings, adding useful factors of difficulty to any task.
Railhead
Chilmark historically provided one of the major sources of munitions storage and processing in the UK and had its own rail spur onto the Exeter - Waterloo railway line. The spur and track have long since gone but the covered platforms and associated infrastructure are largely still in situ and there is a very useful large area of hardstanding there.
Search houses
ISSEE has the use of two search houses which are fully equipped as domestic dwellings. They are semi-detached with the internal joining walls opened up to provide access between. With two sets of stairs, this enables the simultaneous deployment of two search teams and this is useful when dealing with larger training groups, as it reduces student down time waiting for another team to finish its task.
Transport Search
Railway Carriage
ISSEE has a fully equipped railway carriage, this vehicle is a 40 tonne Virgin West Coast carriage which is equipped with first-class seating and tables at one end and a full commercial kitchen with serving area at the other end. This is a great vehicle for performing search operations, due to the varied nature of the interior, which also includes a lavatory, numerous cupboards and cubby holes plus a range of storage compartments accessed from outside.
Vehicles
A midi-type bus plus a double decker are also permanently based on site, increasing the range of operational tasks that can be performed by students.
In addition ISSEE has a number of vehicles for use in training scenarios including a number of cars.
Hardstanding areas
ISSEE has a number of useful areas of hardstanding which suit a variety of purposes including:
* Close Protection (CP) training
* Driver training
* Motorcycle Rider training
* Public Order training
Grassland and wooded areas
Chilmark is in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside and the site is surrounded by many acres of undulating grassland and deciduous woodland. Students benefit from the fact that the site is secure, because it means that highly realistic scenarios; especially those for search and EOD can be devised and training aids can be left in situ outside for many months in order that they 'weather', adding to the realism of the task in hand.
Live Explosives Handling Range
ISSEE is one of a small number of commercial organisations granted permission to use the MoD firing ranges on Salisbury Plain. This enables students to be assessed in practical handling of live explosives and provides ISSEE with the necessary infrastructure to be able to conduct explosives demonstrations and RFX (Recognition of Firearms and Explosives) courses.
We can also do live explosives practical training and explosives demonstrations on site at Chilmark.
