The role of the EOD team Technical Assistant or No2 is critical to the success of operationally deployed teams. Much emphasis is rightly placed on the training and qualifications of the IEDD Operator to meet the demanding requirements of a competent C-IED response to terrorist threats involving devices incorporating explosives, muntions and other hazardous payloads.
ISSEE has always recognised the importance of appropriate training for all EOD team members, and, in addition to the series of courses delivered at Operator level, has developed a less well known range of courses aimed at those not yet trained, qualified or experienced in this discipline. These courses range from Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) ROV handling, maintenance, weapon loading and deployment; to the courses recently conducted for Police EOD Drivers/No2s of S015, the Counter Terrorist Command of the Metropolitan Police Service. This range of courses provides training and qualification to those who are just beginning their careers and those more experienced practitioners who are serving in Operational EOD Units, but who have not previously undergone formal training.
