By car

Assuming you are coming by car, follow either the M3, A303 from the East, or A303 from the West:

From the M3, A303 East

Follow the A303 past Andover and continue past Stonehenge until you drive under the A36. Staying on the A303 for about another mile, you'll come up a hill where the dual carriageway becomes single carriageway.

As you reach the brow of the hill, you will see just before the safety cameras, a left hand turn which is signposted to Chilmark, I believe it is also signposted 'The Black Dog Inn' and 'Farmer Giles Farmstead'.

Follow this road south from the A303 until after a couple of miles of twisting through fields you will come to a T junction right on the corner of the Black Dog Inn.

Turn right and then almost immediately left crossing the B3089 and follow the hill down into Chilmark village.

Now follow the Chilmark directions below.

From the A303 West

Follow the A303 north from the south and continue east through Mere and then take a right turning onto the B3089 towards Hindon.  Continue on this road until you come to Chilmark.  You will come to a staggered cross-roads with ‘The Black Dog’ on your left, you need to take the right turning just before The Black Dog, which goes down into the village.

Now follow the Chilmark directions below.

From Salisbury

Take the A36 west out of Salisbury until you reach the Wilton roundabout.

Take the Wilton exit and passing Wilton House on your left, follow the A30 straight through the town towards Barford St Martin and Shaftesbury.

Approximately 2.5 miles after leaving Wilton, you will reach the village of Barford St Martin and just after the 30mph speed restriction sign, there is a 90 degree left hand bend at which you must cross the road to your right.

This road is the B3089 and is signposted towards Chilmark, passing through Dinton and Teffont Magna.

Follow the B3089 west and when you reach Chilmark, you will notice the Black Dog public house on your right hand side. Immediately after the Black Dog take the first left hand turn, which goes down into the village.

Now follow the Chilmark directions below.

From Chilmark

As you come down this hill the road veers left at 90 degrees. Follow this and after 150 metres (past the red telephone box and bus stop) the road veers 90 degrees right to take you through the rest of the village (sign posted “Tisbury”).  It is quite narrow so be careful.

Follow this road up out of Chilmark and back into fields and woodland until about a three quarters of a mile later you will come to a fork in the road - the house in the middle of the fork has a garden full of old railway signals - take the left fork (signposted to Chilmark Stone on a telegraph pole) and follow the road until you start to see MoD-type fence appearing on both sides.

Be careful here, there is a deceptively blind bend, and after about ¾ of a mile on your left, you will see the main entrance to the UK Centre for Homeland Security, where we can be found in the main building, right in front of you. Parking is round the back and to the side of the main building.
