About Us

ISSEE has a reputation and credibility that has been gained during the last 8 years for the delivery of high quality training in Security and Explosives. We were the first Security, Search and Explosives training organisation in the world to bring City and Guilds of London Institute academic awards to security operators. As the first school of this type we are recognised to be the best and it is a fact that the ISSEE standard is seen to be the de-facto training standard for a number of organisations around the world. We have the facility to bespoke the training to meet specific organisations and countries requirements. In fact, we have developed bespoke training for several corporate organisations in the UK and also for several police and military organisations worldwide.

Our instructors are all highly trained and experienced Counter Terrorist and Explosives Specialists who have over 100 years of operational experience between them, ranging from Northern Ireland in the 1970s through to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2007.

History

In 2000, ISSEE was the first organisation to make a serious attempt to provide a framework of standards, academic qualifications and learning in the fields of Search and Explosives and has since been a beacon for high quality training and education in these fields. Today, ISSEE personnel sit on a number of standards setting bodies working across such fields as Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Explosives Storage and Management.

Since 2000 ISSEE has acquired experience in meeting the needs, managing the courses and associated logistics for clients from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Today we have a much wider training portfolio and our clients are no longer just form military organisations, but also from the worlds of commerce, law enforcement and Non-Government Organisations.

The Team


Prof Alan Hatcher MBA - Principal and Group Business Development Director - Alan has over thirty years experience in the management of complex and dangerous tasks, human resource management, policy implementation and co-ordination of repair and maintenance activities in support of military operations.

Alan is recognised as being the first person to have founded a private academic institution for the training of personnel involved in Counter Terrorist activities. He recently founded the Homeland Security Group whose aim is provide a turnkey solution for organisations that require seamless security systems. Alan has over 35 years experience in the security field as both an operator and a planner and uses the knowledge gained during this time to educate and train others in the requirements of operators in the front line fight against terrorism and crime. He advises several governments and provides security systems audits and analysis.

Tony Malkin - Managing Director - Tony joined ISSEE in August 2007 as Chief Operations Officer having had a long association as a consultant. Tony brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise gained from serving in the British Army and also as an independent security consultant. As an independent security consultant Tony conducted an analysis of international relationships within the Middle East and also wrote the evacuation plans for a global corporate with operations inthe Middle East.

During Tony's 35 years of practical soldiering experience with the British Army's elite Parachute Regiment he was seconded to the Sultanate of Oman's Armed Forces where he actively participated in the successful counter-insurgency campaign in the province of Dhofar. As a consequence and from his recent experience as the Defence Attaché to the United Arab Emirates, he is literate in Arabic and speaks the language fluently. He was the operational planner at HQ Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) for NATO's first overseas peace-keeping mission to Bosnia and was instrumental in developing the UN peace-keeping doctrine from its inception. He has been involved in counter-terrorism in conventional and intelligence gathering roles in the UK's terrorist problem in Northern Ireland in both rural and urban environments.

As an instructor in the British Army he has taught tactics at the School of Infantry to Non-Commissioned Officers and more recently has been the Senior Instructor at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where the future officers of the British Army and some foreign armies are trained. In addition he was attached to the German Army for two years as a student at their staff college in Hamburg. He therefore fully understands the problems associated with learning and studying in a foreign language. He is a Civil Service qualified German Interpreter. Tony is qualified to teach English as a foreign language and he gives travel and security advice to global executives at the International Briefing Centre at Farnham Castle and specialises in cross-cultural briefings for company representatives who, with their families, live and work in the Middle East.

Tony will unquestionably bring a new dimension to ISSEE.

Tony Dedman GM - Deputy Principal Tony is currently the Deputy Principal and Senior Explosives Instructor with ISSEE, where in addition to his deputing responsibilities, his skills and expertise are focused on the design, preparation, delivery and evaluation of course material.

He was awarded the George Medal and a Mention in Dispatches for his service in Northern Ireland, where he dealt with many hundreds of suspect items and rendered safe numerous improvised terrorist devices and booby-traps, and on more than one occasion whilst under attack.

He retired from the British Army after 25 years of exemplary service as an Ammunition Technician during which he served in Bahrain, Oman, Belize, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands, where he gained a vast wealth of explosive knowledge and experience in an active Explosive Ordnance Disposal role and has supervised the disposal of hundreds of tonnes of unserviceable ammunition and propellant charges by demolition and by burning, and dealt with numerous suspect terrorist explosive devices.

After leaving the military, Tony was appointed Principal Professional Technology Officer in Special Operations, where he spent 4 years as an Explosives Officer with the Anti Terrorist Branch of the Metropolitan Police in central London and had a critical role in the fight against crime and terrorism, during which he rendered safe a variety of explosive devices aimed at domestic and foreign targets. Tony also supervised the clearance and forensic investigation of a number of terrorist bomb attacks against military bases in the UK, and presented evidence on behalf of the Crown in respect of the prosecution of those responsible for carrying out these attacks.

Tony also lectured to, advised and rehearsed Police services and commercial businesses in respect of anti terrorist procedures, surveyed high profile establishments at risk, provided technical support to a team of anti terrorist detectives for high profile public events, and gained the necessary skills and experience to ensure that he is operationally competent in contingency planning and crisis management in the event of terrorist attacks.

Terry Thompson - Chief Instructor Terry has over 40 years experience of ammunition and explosives. After his career in the British Army as an Ammunition Technician he spent 14 years in the Anti Terrorist Branch of the Metropolitan Police in London as an Explosives Officer. His military service in UK (including Northern Ireland), the Far East, Middle East and Europe required Terry to deal with the complete range of Ammunition related areas including EOD and IEDD. Terry has dealt with, literally, thousands of EOD and IED related incidents during his career with the British Army and Metropolitan Police, including devices placed by IRA and other terrorist organisations.

During his military service Terry spent 5 years as an instructor at the Army School of Ammunition teaching a variety of ammunition related subjects to students from all over the world.

Throughout his 14 years with the Metropolitan Police Terry was required to deliver lectures, presentations and training to many diverse audiences including senior military, police and government representatives.

He was responsible for developing and delivering many of the subjects covered in the International Ammunition Technician course at the Army School of Ammunition and, since joining ISSEE one of his responsibilities has been to lead the development of ISSEE's International AT course.
He was awarded a Mention in Dispatches in 1973 for services in Northern Ireland and has also received Metropolitan Police commendations.

Phil Yeaman - Senior EOD / IEDD Instructor Phil joined ISSEE on retiring from S013, the Anti Terrorist Branch of the Metropolitan Police Service after fifteen years service. Employed as an Explosives Officer, Phil responded to thousands of EOD/IEDD tasks attributed to various terrorist and other criminal groups, extortionists, blackmailers and those with a disposition towards experimentation with explosive materials. His efforts were recognised by a Commissioner's High Commendation and a major award under a Staff Suggestion Scheme. He was appointed the Explosives Office Senior Manager and Senior Explosives Officer in July 2003. A member of the S013 Senior Management Team, he was responsible for the management and provision of the technical response to incidents involving or suspected of involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive materials in London .

Prior to joining the Metropolitan Police, Phil served in the British Army for twenty five years. After enlisting as a Junior Leader in 1966, he joined the Black Watch in December 1968, where he served in the UK, Malaysia, Gibraltar and Hong Kong. During this period, he completed four tours of duty in Northern Ireland.

In 1973 Phil transferred for training as an Ammunition Technician, and until his retirement in 1991, served in the UK, twice in Germany and on an exchange posting to the Canadian Department of National Defence. A further two tours of duty in Northern Ireland were conducted during this period. He served as the Senior Ammunition Technician with 221 EOD Coy (Ammo Ins BAOR), 321 EOD Coy NI, 721 EOD Coy and 11 Ord Bn (EOD) UK.

During his military career, Phil was selected for instructional posts at the Army School of Ammunition, the Royal Military College of Science Shrivenham, and the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering. He is the holder of a Certificate in Social Sciences and a Certificate in Business Studies.

Phil Myles - Operations Manager Phil joined ISSEE at the beginning of June 2009 as the Operations Manager; Phil has over 30 years experience in armament, aircraft and pyrotechnic environments in the Royal Air Force (RAF) and industry. Following a successful career working across a wide spectrum of trade proficiencies as a Weapons Technician, his final tour was completed in the RAF at Air Command (formally HQSTC) and his speciality was in explosives regulations and licencing (JSP 482). The accolade to Phil's military career was the award of the MBE in June 2000.

On leaving the RAF Phil joined a pyrotechnic manufacturer, where he successfully gained company registration to ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environment). He attained directorate level responsibilities across Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHE&Q) and maintained the systems. He was also responsible for the site regeneration programme (factory new build) and security. He led the drive for site registration to Top Tier Site status of Control Of Major Accidents and Hazards (COMAH) and the subsequent issue of the Safety Report to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

Royston Tan - Regional Manager Royston was appointed in Oct 2004 as the Regional Representative to manage the commercial development of ISSEE South East Asia. He was previously working in Defence Science & Technology Agency, SINGAPORE and his job scope was focused in the procurement of explosives, pyrotechnics and EOD equipment for the armed forces.

Lynn Rudd - Office Manager Lynn's background has prepared her well for her role at ISSEE with a blend of managing customer relationships, the full range of administration management, insight into human resource management and professional development . Her early years were with a veterinary practice in East Yorkshire followed by a period of responsibility regarding the administration and dispensing of large and small animal drugs.

Lynn's husbands career took her to the Middle East and she spent three years in Kuwait where she managed processes for tracking professional development for a Ladies College, undergoing examinations for qualifications in administration based subjects for City & Guilds. Prior to joining ISSEE in July 2003 Lynn also completed an assignment in Germany where she managed administration in support of HM Forces and their families.

Given that one of ISSEE's major objectives is to provide professional qualifications for individuals operating in search, security and explosives environments, Lynn's background enables her to facilitate the interfaces between clients, students and ISSEE instructors as well as manage the complexities of all the logistics associated with training both UK based and overseas students.

In her spare time Lynn is a keen runner and enjoys cycling and keeping fit. Lynn loves the outdoors and also enjoys cooking.

Rt Hon Adam Ingram MP Adam Ingram was born in Glasgow in 1947. He worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst and as a trade union official before entering Parliament in 1987. He entered public life as a local councillor in 1980 and from 1984-87 was leader of East Kilbride District Council.

Shortly after entering Parliament, Adam was appointed Opposition Whip responsible for Treasury matters and Scottish Affairs. In 1988 he was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the then Leader of the Opposition, Neil Kinnock. Following the 1992 general election, he served as a member of the Trade and Industry Select Committee.

In 1993 he was appointed as a Shadow Minister responsible for Pension Policy and other Social Welfare issues.

In 1994 Tony Blair appointed him as Shadow Minister for Science and Technology.

In 1997 he was appointed as Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office with responsibility for Security and the Economy. He became a Privy Councillor in 1998 in recognition of his work in the Northern Ireland Peace Process.

Following the 2001 General Election, Adam was appointed Minister of State for the Armed Forces. He stood down from that post in 2007, making him the longest serving Minister in the history of UK defence.

In 2007 the Prime Minister asked Adam to undertake a study into Defence's contribution to Counter-Terrorism and resilience. He reported to the Prime Minister in October 2008 and his report helped frame the recently published CONTEST 2 strategy.

Adam's main interests are Defence, Security, Energy policy, global geo-politics, the economy and Northern Ireland.
